Description & Objectives

Meditative Politics is a pathway of Sacred Activism that brings together inner listening, contemplative practice and public service. The project emerges from Arturo Cordero's experience as a lawyer, executive coach and facilitator working with public and private institutions, and from his direct encounter with the social and institutional challenges shaping Mexico's public life.

Rather than withdrawing from political reality, Meditative Politics explores how meditation, reflection and conscious conversation can strengthen the capacities needed for more ethical, grounded and compassionate leadership.

At its heart is a simple inquiry: What becomes possible when those engaged in public life learn to pause, listen deeply, discern clearly and act consciously?

Vision. To cultivate people and communities capable of bringing greater presence, discernment, empathy and compassion into political, organizational and public life. Meditative Politics seeks to contribute to a culture in which leadership is not driven only by urgency, reaction or competition, but can also emerge from stillness, awareness, responsibility and service. Its deeper aspiration is to nurture people committed to developing themselves while placing their capacities at the service of collective wellbeing.

Diagnosis / Context

Contemporary political and organizational environments are increasingly shaped by polarization, mistrust, institutional fatigue and constant reactivity.

In such contexts, the ability to pause before responding, observe one's own assumptions, listen across difference and discern possible courses of action becomes an important leadership capacity. Meditation does not replace political analysis, institutional reform or collective action. Rather, this project explores meditation as a complementary discipline through which people may cultivate the quality of presence from which political and organizational action emerges.

Theory of Change

If people engaged in leadership and public life cultivate greater presence, self-awareness, deep listening and discernment, then they may become better able to recognize reactivity, examine assumptions, engage difference and make more conscious choices. If these capacities are practiced collectively, then dialogue, relationships and coordination can become more intentional and responsible. And if contemplative practice is connected with concrete social and institutional challenges, then inner development can become a resource for conscious leadership and social transformation.

Presence → Awareness → Discernment → Relationship → Coordination → Service

Resources Needed

Human. Contemplative practitioners and facilitators · meditation teachers and guides · coaches and process facilitators · institutional partners willing to host practice spaces · researchers documenting the methodology.

Methodological. Contemplative and introspective practice formats · distinctions for political and institutional reflection · guided conscious-conversation frameworks · documentation and evaluation tools · adapted programmes for teams, leaders and public institutions.

Relational. Partnerships with civic and political organizations, public institutions, leadership networks, foundations, companies and international organizations · a community of practice · spaces for peer learning between practitioners, leaders and researchers.

Financial. Funding to support facilitation, programme development, documentation, communications, digital infrastructure, and accessibility mechanisms — including scholarships that enable broader participation.

Milestones & Evidence

The project builds on Arturo Cordero's sustained meditation practice, including participation in short and extended retreats in Mexico and abroad, as well as his experience facilitating awareness and contemplative practices.

This experience is complemented by his professional work with public and private organizations, including KPMG, Heineken, HP, IBM, American Express, Toyota, Fundación Forge, MIDE, SAT, the Federal Court of Administrative Justice, the Procuraduría de la Defensa del Contribuyente and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among others. Arturo has also collaborated with Tergar International in Mexico City, bringing secular mental-training and contemplative practices into spaces of human development and wellbeing.

These experiences provide the foundation for testing a central proposition of Meditative Politics: that contemplative practice can be brought into meaningful dialogue with leadership, organizational life and public service. The emerging practice is organized around three movements: meditation for grounding → reflection for discernment → conversation for conscious coordination. The project will continue documenting learning as the methodology develops across individual, community and institutional settings.

2026–2027: Community of Practice. The current phase focuses on consolidating a regular community of practice where participants can develop a shared discipline of meditation, reflection and conscious conversation. The programme will explore regular virtual practice spaces; open sessions introducing Meditative Politics; deeper contemplative and reflective experiences; documentation of learning and emerging methodology; and applications for leadership, organizations and public institutions. Accessibility mechanisms, including scholarships, may be incorporated to enable broader participation.

Offerings. Meditative Politics Community — regular spaces combining meditation, reflection and conscious conversation. Open Practice Sessions — accessible encounters introducing the relationship between contemplative practice and political life. Conscious Leadership & Organizations — adapted experiences for teams, leaders, companies, public institutions and civic organizations. Political Meditation Dialogues — conversations among practitioners, leaders, researchers and changemakers exploring the relationship between inner life and public action.

6.2 Extended Team & Facilitation Ecosystem

Institutional collaboration. Meditative Politics creates a pathway for collaboration with organizations seeking to strengthen ethical leadership, organizational culture, relational capacity and social responsibility. Potential partners include civic and political organizations, public institutions, leadership networks, foundations, companies and international organizations interested in integrating contemplative practice with transformative action. The School's approach is not to impose a spiritual framework on institutions, but to offer practical, adaptable contemplative and reflective methodologies that can support different organizational and cultural contexts.

Contribution to Conscious Politics

Meditative Politics contributes to the School of Conscious Politics by exploring the quality of presence from which political and organizational action emerges. It treats contemplative practice not as a retreat from public life, but as a discipline that prepares people to serve public life with greater awareness, discernment and responsibility.

By connecting meditation, reflection and conscious conversation with concrete institutional and social challenges, the project tests a proposition at the core of the School: that inner development is not separate from political effectiveness. Presence, discernment and deep listening can become practical capacities for leadership, coordination and service.

Meditative Politics is currently moving from an established individual practice toward a shared community methodology, with the intention of learning how contemplative capacities can meaningfully contribute to conscious political and organizational life.
